At one time or another, we’ve all had something terrible happen.
Which often leads to the question, “Why me, God?”
Have you ever taken a moment to wonder, “Why NOT me, God?”
God does not call the qualified. He qualifies the called.
Think of it as a test.
Silver Linings
Remember, when something tragic happens, it’s not the end.
It is the beginning.
What comes after tragedy or trauma is the part that matters. How you play the hand you’re dealt.
Did you know that broken bones are stronger when they heal?
And you will be too.
Tragedy builds strength and resilience.
I know this is hard to believe when you are in a crisis.
Be patient. Trust the process.
Embrace the “New Normal”
Like everything in life, you can never go back, only forward.
If we are always looking back at what was, we can’t move ahead.
For example, take a look at a person who has paraplegia. Chances are, at one time they walked and ran. But an unexpected accident or injury took that ability away. You may have seen the wheelchair division in prestigious races such as the Boston Marathon. These people who once raced with their legs are now competing from a wheelchair. They have embraced what we call “the new normal.”
There is a “new normal” waiting for you.
Create an Action Plan
Do not wing it! Going with the flow is a good idea when you have suffered trauma, as long as you move towards something specific. Set small goals that keep you thinking, feeling, and moving to a positive place. When you get there, move the finish line.
Pay it Forward
Isn’t it good to know you’re not alone? That others have gone through something similar and survived? You’ve been motivated by their stories, so return the favor. You never know whose life you are about to elevate by sharing your story. Being vulnerable is a gift. Give it freely.
