When you’re in a funk, stressed out, or even just tired, a better, happier, and livelier mood can be less than one minute away.
Here are my four go-to recipes for peace, energy, and joy.
- I call it my Power Move! I use this power move right before phoning a client, writing my blog, or speaking to an audience. I admit I may look a little crazy, pumping my fists while shouting “yes!” five or six times, but it works wonderfully. I “show up” with high energy and focus. Play around with creating a power move that feels good to you and try it out. It’s a game-changer!
- Smile. Force it, even if you don’t feel it. A great way to get in the smiling mood is to send a few voice messages to your friends. Every day I send voice messages to my FaceBook friends celebrating birthdays. It’s just a 10-second message and impossible to do without grinning from ear to ear. It will make their day and bring you incredible joy.
- Sing. At the top of your lungs! Pick something upbeat and belt it out. Who cares if you can’t hold a tune? Turn the music up LOUD to drown out your off-keyness. It’s not a competition but an attitude adjustment.
- LAUGH! Really? Even when you’re feeling down or stressed? YES! Especially then. Listen, you’re going to have to fake it at first. But your body doesn’t know the difference between real and fake laughter. If it feels weird at first (and it will), keep going. Eventually, the laughter becomes real. I can laugh my way into a better mood in under a minute.
