Who gets annoyed when you’re driving along and realize you have to brake for a speed bump? Remember, they’re there for a reason. They force you to slow down. If you don’t, it can cause damage to your car’s frame or suspension.
Ain’t that life.
Life itself is a highway full of thousands of little speed bumps and a pile-up of big ones.
Life’s speed bumps can be anything from having a health challenge or an injury to navigating a family crisis, losing a loved one, losing a job, going through a divorce. You name it. As the saying goes, life is what happens when you are busy making other plans. Life slows us down when we don’t have the realization or the discipline to do it ourselves.
Ain’t that the truth.
How do we navigate life’s speed bumps without damaging our frame of mind and balance in life?
- Find the silver lining. Trust me on this one. There is ALWAYS a silver lining! It won’t always show itself immediately but know that it does exist. I’ve had so many personal examples of this throughout my life, so I wrote my book The Lemonade Diet. I cannot say the shit no longer hits the fan, but I now know to hang tight and trust the process. When it appears, everything makes more sense.
- Be ready with Plan B, C, or D. Whatever it takes. Don’t let the bumps derail you. You ARE the pit crew! Change the flat tire as fast as possible and get back into the race!
- Check your reminders! Remember when you conquered this or persevered through that? You have mastered many of life’s speed bumps already. Remind yourself that you are capable of so much.
- Keep your sense of humor. Sometimes, I laugh out loud. Always try to see the lighter side.
- Keep going. A speed bump isn’t an excuse to stop or quit altogether. Keep moving, and eventually, you will get back up to speed.
Ain’t no stopping us now!
