It’s my birthday month, and there is no better time to celebrate ME than NOW!
And I’m not talking about getting falling-down drunk. That’s a party, not a celebration.
I’m talking about gratitude, reflection, self-awareness, and joy!
I celebrate my birthday for an entire month because I deserve it.
And so do you!
So, what exactly does a month-long celebration of YOU look like?
Since I am 58, here are 8 of my favorites.
- Spend time with those who make you smile and inspire you.
They may not be the people you see every single day. Seek out those gems and enjoy their company. - Read that book.
You know, the one you never have time for. Gifting yourself 15 minutes of filling your mind with hope, ideas, or merely a little escape is pretty reasonable. - Linger in beautiful spaces.
It could be a coffee shop, the bank of a river, or your favorite room in your house reserved for special occasions. Fight the urge to “get going.” Sit, sink into relaxation, and savor your surroundings. - Treat yourself.
Maybe a pedicure, a latté, or a new sweater? If you want to do something more extravagant, go for it! But the point here is not to wait for someone else to treat you. - Go back and look at your photos from several years ago.
I like to look back ten years. I get a good laugh at my hair-styles and fashion faux-pas. But the best part is to see how much progress you’ve made. Maybe you live in a new home, or you got married or have children. Reflect and celebrate all of it. - Get moving.
If it is physically possible, take walks, runs, or hikes. Celebrate your body and its ability to bring you adventuring. - Smile.
All. Day. Long. Smiling makes you feel happy, plus it’s incredibly contagious. And it’s impossible to celebrate while wearing a frown. - Hug.
It releases a hormone called oxytocin and makes us feel fantastic. When oxytocin is released, it calms us down. Now, do you want to talk about feeling loved, accepted, and welcomed? Give a hug. Get a hug. That covers everything.
Your birthday is the anniversary of another year of life.
That in itself is a celebration.
Go ahead, get carried away.
Cheers to YOU!
